Christmas Project | Blankets and Blessings

Many of us use the month of November to reflect on all the things for which we are thankful. I’ve seen several of my friends posting something they are thankful for each day on Facebook or Twitter. I have one friend who is focusing on “30 Things I Take for Granted.” His posts have really got me thinking about all the little things in my life that I don’t appreciate.

As cold weather approaches, we can easily take for granted the things we use to keep warm during the winter. Just being able to adjust our thermostats is a luxury that not everyone has. Coats, blankets, towels, and heating all cost money, and for those with limited resources, these things can be hard to acquire.

That is why we are so excited to partner with Redeemer Lutheran Church in Charleston, West Virginia as they work to provide Christmas baskets to families in their community. Our contact Kurt describes Redeemer as “a congregation with a big heart but limited resources.” However, Redeemer Lutheran Church has not let their limited resources keep them from working to help others in their community. In the same way, Monkey Do Project is an organization with a big heart but limited resources. But when our two small groups work together to show God’s love this holiday season, our impact is greater than if we had worked on our own. Isn’t that awesome?

We will be helping Redeemer Lutheran Church fill their Christmas baskets by collecting new blankets and towels that can be distributed to families in need. We are asking for full-sized blankets (not baby blankets) and bath towels of all sizes: wash cloths, hand towels, and bath towels. We ask that all donations be new items.

We are also accepting financial donations to purchase towels and blankets. A $10 donation can buy a blanket or towel set for a family in need. If you are donating online, please be sure to designate that your donation is for “Christmas blankets.”

We need your donations by December 5th to ensure that we can get them to Charleston in time for the holidays. You can mail blankets and towels to:

Monkey Do Project

P.O. Box 78335

Indianapolis, IN 46278

You can also mail financial donations to this address if that is your preference. Please be sure to indicate that they are for “Christmas blankets.”

I know that all of you who so faithfully support us are much like the people of Redeemer Lutheran Church. You have such big hearts and you give so generously, even when your resources are limited. Thank you in advance for supporting, sharing, and praying for this project.

No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us. – 1 John 4:12

How new is new? I have tons of washcloths that I never used (been sitting on a shelf in a basket) but they are several years old. Same with handtowels.

We are really seeking brand new towels/blankets. If they ones you have are new/unused, then we will take them. If they have been used we can’t take them. SORRY!

What a fantastic way to give back. You may want to ask fabric stores in your area for donations as well. A lot of times they are left with fabric that is unsellable on a roll & they may be able to donate some of that to you. Good luck!

Check to see if there is a Project Linus near this location. They will send you blankets to give away that are all handmade and quilted.

Also, American Heritage Girls (AHGonline.org) has a HUGS program. They will send duffel bags with blankets and other items.

    Good luck!
