13 Nov Ongoing Project | Feed the Sheep
For many children living in poverty, their school lunch is the only guaranteed meal in their day. When they go home for the weekend, they are facing two to three days without sufficient food. Can you imagine your child not eating a full meal over the course of two days? The thought of it makes me want to cry.
We are partnering with Redeemer Lutheran Church in Appalachia West Virginia in helping to meet this need with their Feed My Sheep program. Each weekend the church provides bags of healthy snacks to a local elementary school. These snacks are then sent home with the children who need them the most. Our contact Kurt says this about the program: “A child can get awfully hungry without food to eat for the two to three weekend days. We have found this to be an unfulfilled need that we can help fill.”
Monkey Do Project would like to help meet this need as well. Believe me when I say that thinking about these poor children with nothing to eat has kept me up at night. We’ve decided to take on the Feed My Sheep program as one of our ongoing projects, in the hopes that in touches your hearts in the same way it has touched ours. Redeemer currently supplies food to 12 children, but with our help they are hoping to expand to 20 children in 2013.

Additionally, we are creating partnerships with other organizations and creating our own ongoing Feed the Sheep program in helping to feed these hungry kids when they are outside of school.
And guess what?
A $5 donation can provide one bag of food to a child for one weekend.
